About Cancer Connect Chiang Mai
Cancer Connect Chiang Mai (CCCM) was formed in January 2010, by Elise Crutchley and Carl Samuels, both cancer survivors, who were diagnosed and treated in Chiang Mai. Elise and Carl both came to Chiang Mai in 2003; Elise from the UK; and Carl from the US.
Neither Elise nor Carl had previous experience in medicine. Elise had a career as a speech therapist. Carl had been a business consultant. But once they decided to create CCCM, they made a commitment to learn everything they could about diagnosing and treating cancer; and providing guidance, advocacy, and personal support for people diagnosed with cancer, and at end of life.
In addition to extensive research, reading and visiting cancer support organizations in the UK, US and Australia, they completed a clinical pastoral education program at Chiang Mai University. However, their most significant teachers are the people who they assist.
